About Frome Web Design
I'm Dan Cartwright, a British Army veteran turned web designer based in Beckington, just outside Frome. I spent years in REME keeping equipment running in places where "it'll do" wasn't an option, and that mindset stuck.
I started building websites because I kept seeing local businesses getting ripped off. Someone charges them two grand for a WordPress template they bought for £47, slaps their logo on it, and calls it bespoke.
The site loads slowly, Google can barely read it, and AI tools like ChatGPT don't know the business exists. The business owner has no idea any of this is wrong because they trusted someone who told them it was sorted.
That bothered me enough to do something about it.
Why Frome Web Design Exists
Every site I build is custom-coded from scratch using the same technology that powers sites for companies ten times your size. No WordPress, no templates, no page builders, no plugins that break every time there's an update. The difference is I build it at a Frome business budget, not a London agency price tag.
The technical bit matters because of how search engines and AI actually work. Most websites are built using client-side rendering, which means the visitor's browser downloads a blank page and then assembles everything from scratch.
That's slow, and more importantly, AI crawlers like ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews can't read it properly because there's nothing on the page until the browser builds it.
My sites use server-side rendering, the server builds the finished page before sending it to anyone, which means the content is ready for Google and AI from the moment the site goes live. That's not a nice-to-have any more, it's the difference between being found and being invisible.
I also run V.O.I.C.E., an AI visibility scanning tool that checks whether your business is actually visible to AI search tools. Most businesses have no idea they're invisible to ChatGPT and Perplexity, and their current web designer has never mentioned it because they don't understand it themselves.

You deal with me directly, start to finish. No account managers, no juniors, no "I'll pass that to the team." When you email or call, I'm the one who answers.
I don't hide my prices behind a contact form, they're on the pricing page because I think you deserve to know what you're looking at before we even have a conversation. I'll always tell you what something will cost, how long it will take, and what you're actually getting for it.
If something isn't worth doing, I'll tell you that too. I'd rather lose a sale than take your money for work that won't make a difference.
